Homework is generally viewed as a way for students to extend learning after school in the home. The U.S. Department of Education notes that homework can have many benefits for young children, including improving retention and understanding of schoolwork. It also can help students develop study skills that they will use throughout their education. Homework also can teach children to manage time, foster independence and responsibility, and teach children that learning takes place anywhere.
Teaching grammar is not all that exciting, but it is more important than most belive. Many job applications and cover letters are passed over because the applicant did not use proper grammar. Grammar used to be taught using a language book, learning about parts of speech and doing language exercises such as diagramming sentences. Now grammar is usually taught with writing, and it is taught through mini-lessons. It may also be taught in literature circles when teachers discuss with students how an author writes or a character's speech pattern. When you teach grammar with these methods, students are more likely to remember the grammar rules and apply them to their everyday life.....a necessary tool!
There are a lot of distractions for children now days...eliminate some like Cell phones, not texting not toys until the homework is done. Make the enviroment suitable and get it done correctly and without distraction.
You remeber what it was like - hating to do your homework. I could find any excuse NOT to do it.....but we want more for our children and it they are to succeed in a tough world they need to work harder yet we want them to have a positive exp and WANT to learn.
